Updated: Sep 7, 2023

The sun was certainly shining for Buxton Cricket Club last weekend with some outstanding performances and victories galore. The 1st team won by 38 runs, 2nd team by 148 runs, 3rd team by 4 wickets and with it the league title, 4th team by 17 runs and the Womens hardball 1st team by 5 wickets.

Buxton 1st XI were playing Marehay 2nd XI away and looking to maintain their lead at the top of Division 3 North of the Derbyshire Cricket League with two games to go. Buxton won the toss and elected to bat on a very well kept wicket and lovely cricket ground with a fast outfield. With the team in good spirits and summer returning, Ram Goli and legend Bob Marsden attacked from ball one, unfortunately the team collapsed with only Harry Griffin scoring any decent runs, 85 not out. Buxton were all out for 162 off 36.5 overs.

On a good bowling wicket, Buxton set about bowling Marehay out cheaply, an early wicket from Frankie Heathcote was quickly followed by regular falls of wickets until a good partnership between two stalwarts of the Marehay team took the game to a fine balance. A drinks break refreshed Buxton and together with a bowling change brought an instant wicket and eventual collapse from the opposition, leaving Buxton victors by 38 runs as Marehay were all out for 124 off 39.3 overs. Pick of the bowlers for Buxton was Fran Slater with 4 wickets for 22 runs off his 10 overs.

Buxton Women’s hardball 1st XI have now notched up 9 wins out of 9 and clear at the top of Division 3 of the Cheshire Womens Cricket League with 2 games to go. Playing Stockport Georgians 2nd XI last Sunday at the Park, Buxton put them in to bat and saw Stockport posting a respectable 113 all out off 24.2 overs. Lydia Slack was the pick of the bowlers for Buxton taking 6 wickets for 18 runs and two wickets a piece for Esther Buston & Livvi Phipps. The first two ladies in for Buxton in reply were Faye Smith who managed to stay in the whole match for a very impressive 53, and Amy Simcox who scored 27. In the end Buxton was too strong and won by 5 wickets. Buxton 114 for 5 off 28.1 overs.

Buxton 2nd XI maintained their 2nd place in Division 7 North of the Derbyshire League with a resounding 148 run win over Shipley Hall 2nd XI. Buxton batting first scored 195 for 8 off 39 overs (Matthew Poole 46 and Joe Bagshaw 32 in an opening 1st wicket partnership of 91 runs) In reply Shipley were all out for 47 runs off 24.3 overs (Chris Simcox taking 5 wickets for 11 runs off his 9 overs).

Chris Simcox took 5-11 off 9 overs

Buxton 3rd XI have now finished the season and went out in style with a massive 27 points and with it the Division 9 North league title and promotion to Division 8 next season. The 4 wicket win was against Selston Town 2nd XI who batting first, scored 135 all out off 35.4 overs (3 for 20 for Chris Hazelhurst and 3 for 35 for Sam Longden) in reply Buxton made the required runs off 31.1 overs, scoring 140 for 6 (Luca Bartlett 31 runs and Dan Blackwell not out 30).

Buxton 4th XI on Saturday scraped a win in a low scoring game, bowled out for 87 runs off 32.3 overs you would have thought game over, but some excellent bowling meant Whittington Wanderers 2nd XI were all out for 70 off 23.2 overs.
