A clean sweep for all 4 Buxton Women's Cricket Teams

Buxton Softball Ladies got off to a flying start by winning both the 1st’s and 2nd’s League matches. The first match against New Mills in the High Peak League was played a Green Lane (Buxtons 2nd pitch) in really cold and windy conditions. Buxton won the toss and went into field first. There was plenty of great fielding from some first-time players including excellent catches, wickets, great stops and backing up from everyone. They kept New Mills to a score of 235. Buxton batters took to the field and scored 263. It was a good hard-fought match played under difficult conditions, with Buxton coming out on top.


The second match being played in the Derbyshire and Cheshire League against Cheadle Hulme Ladies. This Buxton team is a new team and was mostly made up of new players to the game, including the Captain. Buxton won the toss and decided to field. There was a great catch and some craking wickets. Keeping Cheadle Hulme to a score of 268 runs. Buxton came in and the last two ladies hit some great balls scoring Boundaries to win the game with a score of 301. In conclusion it was a great start for the Softball season.

Wednesday 17th May: Women's Hardball 2nd XI

Buxton Women's 2nd XI had a fantastic game away at New Mills on Wednesday. Buxton batted first and an impressive performance saw Caitlin McClurg hit a quick 30 (retired not out) off 26 balls with captain Amy Simcox also scoring 30 (retired not out) taking Buxton to a total of 123-2 off 20 overs. New Mills bowlers Jill Langton (1-2 off 2) and Eve Singleton (1-6 off 2) took one wicket each.

Excellent bowling and fielding from Buxton saw New Mills restricted to 71-8 off 20 over, with a standout performance by youngster Lucy Higton who took 3 wickets (3-15 off 4). Amy Simcox took 2 wickets (2-16 off 3) and Nicola Grainger (1-9 off 5), Sara Allen (1-14 off 4) and Caitlin McClurg (1-8 off 2) all took one wicket each.


Sunday 21st May: Women's Hardball 1st XI

Buxton Women's 1st XI beat Woodley Women's 1st XI in their Division 3 game at Woodley. Sara Allen (14-2 off 5) and Esther Buston (19-1 off 6) were an impressive opening bowling attack taking 3 wickets between them in the first 5 overs. Woodley batters Sarah Sutcliffe (15) and Nicola Nolan (30) steadied the innings and took Woodley to a total of 87 - 6 off 30 overs. Lydia Slack took 2 wickets (2-12 off 4) including a stumping by keeper Denise Morris, and Kay Woodhead took one wicket (1-10 off 4), caught by Helen Szostakowicz. The bowlers were backed up by brilliant fielding from the team.

Opening the batting Faye Smith (15) and Gina Howarth (4) did an excellent job of seeing off Woodley's opening bowlers. Captain Kelly Bunting (9) steadied the innings after a couple of quick wickets fell and Lydia Slack finished the innings with a decisive 40 not out off 23 balls supported by Denise Morris (3 not out). Buxton reached 88-5 with 4 overs remaining.
